Just another day

I went to the super market today. It’s Friday and so I thought I would pick up some snacks for the kids. I grab a small cart and headed in. I found myself walking around aimlessly. I was thinking about the many things I had to do today. I thought about the boring and the repetitive tasks that waited for me at home. I thought about my writing project that requires more time than I have. Trying to write with kids running around and dinner to be made is no easy task. I began to think; wow my life is so boring. My life is happy but boring. I looked up and around the store and saw a dozen women with the same look on their face. They were walking aimlessly like zombies no smiles. They all looked lost in thought. They looked very much like me. My mind started to race. Was there life like mine?  Are these women just going through the motions, doing what has to be done? Could there be more to it? Maybe they enjoy this part of the day no kids or husbands demanding anything. They can just be alone with their thoughts. Could it be there only escape, or are they just like me? Then my thoughts were interrupted by the music in the store. The store was playing I wanna  rock and roll all night by Kiss. I almost laughed out loud hysterically. I smiled and thought are you kidding me are we shopping to a party song?

This was one of my favorite songs in high school. At that time I really thought I was going to set the world on fire. I was young, wild and having a blast. I thought being a grown up would be Fricken Awesome as I used to say at 16… I was going to be a writer and I would travel in style with other literary Guinness’s. We would sit around talk about art and just be fabulous. I would see the world, travel to places people only read about.  Every task every moment would be an expression of art and it was going to be grand. Now here I am. I live in a small town. I live a boring life. Yes, I am a writer. No I didn’t set the world on fire. The most traveling I have done is my honeymoon, a trip to Puerto Rico and the Jersey shore. I thought for a moment what the hell happened, what happened to all those plans?  So there I am in the store feeling sorry for myself. Then it hit me. What hit me right in the face was reality but in a good way. I realized what I have is pretty darn good.

I have three beautiful boys and a wonderful husband. There is beauty and art in the mundane; you just have to allow yourself to see it. I didn’t give up my dreams I trade them for a better ones. Do I still think shopping is boring? Yes!  So what! Every moment every breath is a blessing. Some of my best story’s come for an average boring event. I have some of my best ideas when I am doing the most basic of things. I love the Shore, my kids love the shore. The most extraordinary things in life come from the ordinary things we do. Life was never meant to be a 24 hour party. Life was meant to be lived to the fullest. That means something different to everyone. For me I am exactly were I was supposed to be. I am happy that is all that matter.

You know what I am going to do now? I am going to put some Kiss on, clean my house and rock out! I am going to take a break from my oh so artistic life and just be. What a strange day. Who would have thought Kiss could lead to such deep thought. So here is some advice. Step away from your computer and put on your favorite song and be there and only there in the moment. Enjoy your weekend and Rock on!
